I read somewhere that something like 40% (it may have been less or even more) of the US population doesn't even know when the Civil War happened. Many think it was during the 1960's, referring to the civil rights movement. However, most could name the winner of last year's American Idol. Very sad. I also recently read that a landmark tree that oversaw the battle, was refuge to the sun for many soldiers, and that "listened" to Lincoln's famous address, was almost totally destroyed by a storm.
