• The Insidious Lie You’ve Been Sold!

    The Insidious Lie (Or Life?) You’ve Been Sold!

    Financial “gurus” sell the Slowlane, and get rich in the Fastlane and its the most insidious lie ever perpetrated on you. Don’t believe them as most of these hypesters don’t practice what they preach.

    These people are heralded as financial gurus through the mainstream media … their typical habitats of prey are on cable TV, infomercials, radio, and on the shelf at your local bookstore.

    They sell you the Slowlane as a strategy to wealth: Jobs. Mutual funds. Saving. Cut up your credit cards. Clip coupons.

    However, they get rich in the Fastlane: Books, tapes, infomercials, cable-tv contracts, radio gigs, you name it.

    I wonder how these people can sit around and sell a strategy that they don’t follow themself? Do you think Suze got rich investing in mutual funds or clipping coupons? No. She got rich by selling books and by creating a personal brand recognized by millions. Suze drives a Fastlane while teaching the Slowlane… it’s the most insidious concept ever allowed.

    Still don’t get it?

    Imagine you take a trip to Brazil to live your dream: An exploratory river ride down the Amazon river. Before engaging the dangerous river ride, you decide to hire a river guide. You find one in a small town who says “I can show you the river!”

    Excited, you ask “How many times have your traveled the river?”

    Shockingly, he retorts in broken English “I never traveled the river by boat. I take airplane. Faster. Better.”

    Confused, you respond “If you never taken the boat trip, how can you safely guide me through the perilous journey?”

    The faux river guide laughs and says “I can’t. I can only tell you about the view from above.”

    This analogy strikingly befits the legacy of the financial gurus.

    They take the Fastlane to wealth, the airplane … while they sell you the river boat ride … a ride that they never themself fully completed.

    It’s hypocrisy and you are being spoon-fed this stuff on a regular basis.

    The danger of the Slowlane strategy is simple: It takes a lifetime to realize its potential. You don’t need to be reminded that life is short and full of crises and life-changing events: We get married. We have children. Parents get ill. We get ill. We die.

    Whoring your life away to save the almighty dollar is a prescription for death.

    “When Joe Monroe was a teenager, he read several personal finance books about getting rich. They told him to save, get a job, clip coupons, and live well below your means. After graduating from college with a law degree, Joe decided to follow this advice. While it was difficult, Joe followed this plan for wealth diligently. He worked 60 hour work weeks at his law firm, often neglecting his family and children. After 6 years in law, he decided that his chosen profession was no longer enjoyable. Yet, he decided to stick it out as he was just a promotion away from a guaranteed 6-figure a year salary. As Joe’s life moved forward, he never lost sight of his goal and the strategy that would get him there. He wanted to retire by age 55 and do it with millions in the bank After all, financial guru David says “Smart People Finish Rich”.

    He would save. He invested in mutual funds. He spent hours clipping coupons. He endured his job which clouded his life with more stress than his aging parents.

    He didn’t lose sight of his goal though … no one said it’d be easy. One day, he knew he’d be able to retire with millions; managing the 60 hour work week in a job he hated, was worth it.

    Then one hot summer day while mowing the lawn, Joe had a heart attack. He died at age 51… 4 years before reaching his envisioned destination.”

    The story above is tragic. Although Joe died a millionaire, he never enjoyed the fruits of his labor, nor did his family until after his death. Joe mortgaged his life for his Slowlane plan … a plan that assumes far too much, and gives back so little.

    Yet, the strategy Joe was sold is the same strategy we’ve been sold since we’ve been old enough to understand money. While Joe’s diligence is commendable, the sacrifice for the plan is too great: He lost control over the one variable required in the equation to happiness: Enjoying your life and your family — now, not later.

    The goal of the Fastlane is to acquire wealth fast, young, not old. The lie you’ve been sold is that it takes a lifetime. It doesn’t. You can do it in years, not decades.

    Peace,

    </p>

      Wow; what an inspirational article; Too many times when we are on that road to the fast lane, people close to you will doubt you and tell you to do what 95% of others are doing and that is indeed “whoring’ their souls for a paycheck; They may hate the job, but you get them saying things such as “well, it’s better than nothing.” They go to chuch on Sundays beleiving that God is a God of abundance, but yet, they live paycheck to paycheck; MJ, you are right on point; Life is short and unpredictable; I’ve been after this dream of financial independece now for the past few years and instead of getting encouragement from my friends and family, they are the one telling me that I am waisting my time; To go back to school and follow the same script that they are following; Youa re a great writer Mj; I can’t wait for your book to come out; You are speaking the truth; So many gururs out there don’t have a clue how to create wealth; They are selling their books and tapes and asking you to come to their seminars and yet, one spend their hard earn income on these and nothing to show for; Anyways, thanks for this post;
