My wife and I are taking our concealed handgun license training tomorrow. What do you all think about writing off the cost as a business expense? Can it be considered a safety issue when showing houses, therefore a justifiable expense? Just thinking outside the box here.

It is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission when dealing with the IRS.

Assuming you DO intend to use it when dealing with your properties, it should be a permitted expense (pun intended).

In my opinion, I don't see a problem. If your intent was business purpose, then deduct it. An accountant might tell you to deduct a portion of its cost. Would a shopowner in a bad neighborhood be justified to deduct the cost? I think so, so I don't think you'd be any different.
