if you go to a website and it says

This domain name expired on x/xx/xx and is pending renewal or deletion

What does this mean, will it become aval at a random time, soon?

thank you

Yeah, it should become available at that date. Unless the owner renews it and pays for domain again.

it is all fairly concrete. x number of days from expiration is given for redemption before you can try to grab it. Best move is to make an offer to the current owner. Domain grabbing is a lottery.

A domain becomes available 75 days after the expiration date.

eg: If you register a domain on 1/1/2010 for one year then it'll become available for registration on 15/03/2011 if not renewed.

You can always go to godaddy or another site and place a backorder on it. I have "Won" a number of really good domains this way.

If you want to backorder, try Snapnames.com I've had good success with them.

A sneaky way to do it is the approach the person who owned it right before it expired and make them an offer. They will need to renew it and pay a small fee to have it "un-expired" but since they are letting it expire anyways, it is all profit to them, so they have nothing to lose.

Then they can transfer it to you once they have it back in their possession and renewed.
