Automating your warehouse *awesome*

Talk about innovation. Unfortunately i can not link more videos because you have to apply and log in, but at the end of this video it shows the Kiva system in action.

Instead of having pickers walking places to get items, it brings the items and shelves to a central station! I am sure it could be automated even further but this is pretty awesome if you ask me

I imagine eventually you could automate the picking portion as well. The other videos show how the kiva system can work in the dark so you are saving on energy as well. it's twice as productive and easier on employees.

Yeah, i find this all very exciting, yet no one thinks i am normal when they hear my excitement about it, haha. One day i want to be able to source my own products so i have complete control over operations and shipping times. For now i can not do that but i can still learn about fulfillment and warehousing.

I have seem some no-man warehouse ... It's amazing! The downside is that people will be laid off because that.

I guess it all depends, this was in expansion space for zappos, and they still need pickers and maintenance people, i think if anything jobs would shift but they wouldn't loose too much. If anything it'll keep people safer, they still need to pick the order, they just don't need to find it and get it off a shelf being open to accidents and mishaps.
