I wish I did. I thought I'd be done with it by now (mainly because I thought I'd be clear of my prior business).

Always love reading your story Mike, it provides more inspiration than you realize to ALOT of people. The times where you struggled the most (depressed in Chicago, having trouble paying bills, watching friends seemingly "pass you" in life, etc.), are the ones that probably taught you the biggest lessons. Its inspirational to read that and to know that if you dont give up, the light at the end of the tunnel can be everything youve ever dreamed of.
Cant wait till your book comes out. |

What an amazing story, and I totally agree with pretty much everything you said. It's not what can I do to make money (that sooo many people go after my age) but rather what need does a person, or company or organization has, and how can you fullfill that need.
Keep up the good stuff! |

Great post. I found it intriguing that when you started you knew what what you wanted and in a broad sense, how you wanted to get there. Yet still, the journey was filled with trials, tribulations and uncertainty. At the point that I am, it reinforces the fact that just because I know what I want doesn't mean I'm not going to have to work my ass off to figure out how to get it.
Quick question for your PhxMJ: Did you do this completely solo or did you have any key partners, mentors, coworkers, or advisers that helped you along the way....other than Tony Robbins? ![]() |

I did this solo -- however, I had some good employees that allowed me to focus on the business growth vs business operation. Also, my nose was jammed in a book daily so you can say I was being mentored by the various authors I was reading.

Fantastic, everything you have said hits the nail on the head -- so many websites and business books miss the main points - focus, do something you enjoy and most importantly forget about making money and concentrate on filling a need or solving a problem.

Thanks - I really needed to read this today. I'm the guy who's had a "Safe" and "secure" job (actually, not so much on either account). Very inspirational!
Thanks again. |

Hello. Your story is truly inspirational to me. I am starting an e-commerce site (i know it's slowlane but at least i'm doing something). I am very interested in learning about building a lead gen. site as well as building a membership type websites. Can you recommend what books to read and or where someone that is not very knowledgeable in these areas should start? Are there many people on this site that are already in this field that can help me or point me in the right direction? Thank you.
Michael. |

As far as I know, there is no book about it. In fact, I was one of the pioneers in the industry as the concept was unheard of back in the late 90's. I guess you can say, I made a path where there was none. The best research you can do is to join a company that does lead-gen and reverse engineer the concept from the outside looking in.
Actually, I am glad there is no book about it -- then everyone would be doing it -- just like blogging.

Very true. Would someone(me) have to learn all the programming, html etc. that you did? With all of the programs, website builders etc. would you be able to build a site and be more focused on what your site offered? or am I looking at it all wrong?
Would it be easier to build a membership site than a lead gen. site? Which type of site is harder to get members or leads? How did you get people and businesses to use your site? Where there any special marketing techniques you had to use because of what your site offered? Thanks for the info. It's greatly appreciated!! Michael. ps. any news on when the book comes out? |

What a great post! The key here seems to be never to give up on your dreams, even when your feelings and others are telling you differently. Also, it's so important to identify needs, then create systems to fill those needs. Thanks for the story!

This is a great story because I connected with it on so many levels. The downs and ups... you ain't kidding... I also didn't realize you had tried all that before you realized the "feed a human problem a solution formula." These were revelation points for me as well. Anyway congrats on your personal development. Very good story. I am going to have to read it 2-3 more times to comprehend it entirely. I found a lot of golden nuggets in there.
