Last week Snowbank and I were discussing some business ideas on my couch and talking about how people keep saying that they can't find any jobs and can't make money.

So just for fun we went to craigslist and looked at a bunch of ads. Here is what we came up with:

A couple people looking for dog walkers, $10/walk, 3x a week, 1/2 hr. Probably a solid $90 a week if you can land 3 jobs.

A guy who said he'll do anything for $10/hr. Use him for next job.

Lady looking for help to move a curio cabinet, will pay $150, need own truck. We go rent a truck at home depot for $19.95/hr, get some blankets, hire an extra guy for $10/yr. Pocket $100 for 2-3 hours of work.

There were a bunch of house and yard cleaning wanted ads. Help moving ads also seemed to be popular. All seemed to be around $10-15/hr.

The point is that we probably could have made decent money for a days worth of work if we tried to get these jobs.

In fact, after I thought about it I bet that I could start a decent dog walking service in my neighborhood after thinking about it. People hate making leaving their dogs couped up inside all day and would probably gladly pay $10 to know that their pet is happy and getting exercise.

I mean $10/half hour walk. 8 dogs a day, $80 a day for 4 hours of work a day. Not bad right? It would be even better if I could walk 2-3 together if they got along. Not thinking fastlane here, but one would actually walk the dogs myself. Part time job making $20,000/yr and you get your exercise!!!

How about window cleaning on comercial and houses? Charge $1.50 per side and up cleaning on a 1 story house. Supplies are cheap and it only takes a couple of minutes per window. Learn how to repair screens and add more business.

If you group you clients together you could make 50 to 60 per hour once you get your skills together.

It all comes down to want to.

Great post Kenric, speed+ .... fact is, it's easier to sit on an excuse "I can't make money in this market" or "I don't know how" than it is to work.

Yup definitely didn't come up in my new posts pile. Good job on seeing opportunity. I used to hear that all the time and always responded in a similar fashion... funny no one ever tells me that anymore yet i hear them complaining to others.....

Seems like not only do they not want to work but they also just love to complain to others and it's like a big cesspool of false sympathy out there.... haha

Labor is cheaper than ever right now... If you want to start a business, you'll have no shortage of people who will line up to work cheap. Some news report here the other night said that McDonalds had 2 jobs available, and they received over 800 applications for those 2 positions. Gotta love that!

I used craigslist to start a snow removal service while I was home this winter break (for those who haven't seen the thread Started a small company this winter break!)

Like MJ said...

You just need to get up and want to do it. Thanks for making this post though! I will see if anyone needs any help here around my school. In fact, just got hit with another idea.

I should start a move in company here in Iowa City to help all the students move into their new apartments this fall! Could work...plus I know all the "to-be sophomores" leaving the dorms for private housing.

The point is...the opportunities are endless.

People who make excuses are just plain and simply NOT FASTLANE.

Great post.

Some people are poor because they were really unlucky and really are screwed. I'm good with helping those folks.

Most people aren't willing to do what it takes. Those people are poor because they'd rather be poor than do something about it.

My nasty side comes out on this subject because there have been times when I had to endure some really lousy jobs to work my way out of a jam. Amazingly, the same energy I could have spent bitching about bad luck was sufficient to change my luck.

Funny how those people who work their asses off tend to get 'lucky'.

Let's tax'm.

I had conversations with one of my Twitter followers earlier today.

He has huge amount of follower (11K) and complaints about no one visit his site. So he can not make any good traffic and even profit. He blames on his poor English spellings, grammars. Well. I feel his pain.

I tried to encourage him that his age(54+) has nothing to do with his problem and he should take action to make thing happen instead of complaint that things don't happen. I also send him the video that MJ post few weeks ago about the guy who has no legs and no arms and still get back up.

This is his response:
But I am to old, tired & no longer have a will to try.The best thing I can do is admitted I fail & try to move on
There are people out there simply just give up. They don't think they will be able to change their life, so they go with the flow do nothing.

I don't think poor people or born with no arms no legs are any difference than rich people. It's the mind set to make you a different person.

LCD TV giant Vizio's CEO starts his TV business at age 42 after surviving the plane crash (one of the 6 people survive while other 86 dies) and become so success.

There is nothing impossible, only if you believe so.
