Question For Diane - Keeping Knowledge Updated

Diane,
Love your story
and I didn't want to clutter it up with my question.

You talk about the tax law always changing.
How can you step back and
do the big picture planning and business building
without falling behind with the in depth knowledge
that comes with actually doing?

Why am I asking this?
Because I write novels based in the corporate world.
I'd love to step back, concentrate on writing and start ups
but I'm concerned that if I'm not actually IN the corporate world
(for at least a few months out of the year),
I won't have an authentic voice in the novels.

I haven't figured out a solution to this
so I work for a few months in corporate gigs
and then take a few months off.
Good for writing but challenging for business building.

The question regarding the "authentic voice" is an interesting one, though. I haven't done a personal tax strategy since 2003. I found I was running out of stories and out of touch a little, so started doing some on a very limited basis this past month. I'm excited and enthused again and have new things to blog about.

I wonder if you could keep the experience of corporate America by being involved part-time.

It reminds me a little of a Scott Adams interview (creator of Dilbert) on what happened when he left the cubicle world for his own home-based business. The biggest downside, he said, was that it wasn't nearly as much fun to steal office supplies when you worked for yourself.

Yes, part time could work.
I only have to figure out
how to switch my brain
from project launches to writing faster.

Today, it takes me a few days
which would make it a very short work week.
