To those outside the US, sorry the map centers there, I could not find a world map in google's selection. If you zoom out everyone should come into view.

I should mention, I am only going to update names on this list of those that ask. I know we have several more states and countries represented now and I would love to add your names. Please let me know.

I had to guess the location of Mendoza on Argentina's map. Google maps does not have any cities or roads listed for Argentina. I think its close to the right area though.

Lets spice this thread up a bit. How about some interesting facts about your area. What its known for, historical significance, home of the 5 legged cow...whatever works. I love factoids and I want to hear about everyone's area. Pictures of the area if you have them. Jorge if you have the time, I'd like to hear about this statue.

Cool! I like your idea
![]() Ok, lets see...remember my English is not very good! That statue is a tribute to the "Army of Los Andes". This Argentinian army defeated the Spanish troops and set Argentina, Chile and Perú free from them. The statue is located at the top of a small mount "Cerro de la Gloria" (don't know how to call it, in Spanish "Mount of Glory") from where you can see the whole city. Also, next to that mount theres the local zoo wich is pretty cool although it has little budget, it has many many species. Mendoza is the fourth biggest province from my country. It has about 1.7M habitants and its what is known as an Oasis, it means that this is a desertic zone with man-planted vegetation. An aunt of mine lived in Tucson AZ a few years and said that it was pretty similar in weather. We are surrounded by mountains, with rivers fed by melting snow (dont know how to explain :P) 200km far from the border with Chile. There's customs and immigrations also where I'm in charge of immigrations computer system along with the airport. In the border sits the Aconcagua, the highest mount in America and one of the tallest in the world. So a lot of climbers come every year trying to reach the top. Life here is pretty chill (way too much for me) but tourists love this. We also have a lot of wineries since thats the main economic activity. Mendoza has one of the bests wines in the world (they are cheap here!)It has a pretty good night life, theres the "Aristides Villanueva" street wich has a lot of bars with differents musics to different ages. We also have a lot of dance clubs. Theres a lot of "extreme sports" such as rafting, 4x4, skiing, climbing, etc. Im not a fun of these :P I climbed a little as a kid but got bored. People is really conservative in every aspect, which is the thing I hate the most. In here people with lots of money live in small houses and drives cheap cars, "just in case". I grew up hating these my hole life. Anyways, its a good place to live. Although in the last few years it has became a lot more insecure with crime rising I'm sure that will change in the near future. Here you have some pics: Chile/Argentina Border: ![]() A water press (don't know how to spell it): ![]() View from a Vineyard (About 20km from the city): Downtown (The tallest building in the city is from my mentor ![]() ![]() Aristides Villanueva (The place with all the bars): ![]() The local mini-desert "Los Altos Limpios" (Something like "The clean heights") http://www.flickr.com/photos/dhammza...saltoslimpios/ Hope you enjoyed the review! Cheers! Last edited by Jorge; Nov 28th, 2007 at 04:42 PM. Reason: Some more pics! Spelling fixed |

I’m going to try and keep this going. Let me tell you a little bit about Fort Collins, Co. It’s situated about 60 miles north of Denver and 45 miles south of Cheyenne. Founded in 1864 as a military outpost, it now has a population of 130,000 and is home to Colorado State University.
![]() The town is currently famous for its brewing. Fort Collins is home to Anheuser-Busch brewery, New Belgium Brewing , Fort Collins Brewery, and Odell Brewing. It also has 4 brewpubs. We have a brew festival every year that hosts over 30,000 people. Not to bad for a town that was dry from 1896 to 1969. ![]() In the 1930’s it was the smallest town in the USA to support an active trolley system. ![]() Downtown Fort Collins is thought to be the inspiration for Mainstreet USA at Disney theme parks. Walt Disney’s lead designer in the 1950’s was Harper Goff, an art director born and raised in Fort Collins. ![]() USDA seed lab with over 475,000 different plant species is located here. The National Institute of Standards and Technology in Fort Collins has the Atomic Clock which can give you the most accurate time of day. Fort Collins was ranked the #1 place to live in America in 2006 Money Magazine and has consistently been in the top ten of places to live. The Cache La Poudre River runs through downtown and variety of rafting companies take advantage of its location. ![]()
