Thumbs down How to Smell A Spammer ...
Just a heads-up for bystanders and MODS ...

When you see a new user posting in existing threads ... one words, two word comments, it is more than likely they are a spammer-to-be ... since the forum doesn't allow new users to create new threads (they need 5 posts) the spammer will start post whoring crap in existing threads like ...

"I agree"

"Great topic"

"Great stuff"

The goal is to get to 5 posts so they can create a new thread. Even if they do so, link posting is not allowed until 20 posts.

This has been a great way to sniff out the spammers. When someone posts in the intro forum "HI" and that's all, you know their objective to be here isn't to learn ... it is something else.

Good point MJ. Ive noticed this on two to three occasions. Funny part though, they stop posting after that 5th post without even being banned. My guess is they get to #5 create a new thread and realize they can't put links in it and give up. Friggin hilarious if you ask me.

This has actually disappointed me in my quest to remain the top spam cop. I see these new signups with some great spammy names which you know will spam as soon as they can. Then they lose interest and leave. How sad.

Anyone want to hire an out of work spam policeman?

May be you guys are hanging out here all day. I don't see those post at all, but I am glad that I don't see that here.

I thought there is tool in the forum that can help you block certain post with keywords.

You guys rock!

Can't create a thread, hasn't hit 5 posts. I deleted them. He can try, but it should be blocked from posting.

If he was able to get to the "New Thread" screen before they were deleted, will he be able to get the thread published?

I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS!!!!!

...I'd like to rip him a new one...

I'm pretty sure when "post" is hit, it will stop the posting. Even if it doesn't work, links can't be posted anyhow.

Haha, I'm getting sick of Favre, but I really LOVE Manny -- especially when he's not there to pwn my Yankee pitchers!!

I do feel bad for good ol' Mr. Torre now, though.

Hey MJ when they are doing their thing and posting all those "I agree" posts, are they aware they are being monitored? Is there anything that tells them that their posts are being deleted? Never been a mod, I really don't know.

Just woke up (working midnights) and had an email alert that someone named Nick****** had replied to my "Selling Spreadsheets" thread with this:

"try selling in the web it might work"

I was so excited because I thought "more freedom" from the RD forums had finally joined...only to find this thread.

...oh wait, it probably was him!

No, they don't know they are being monitored ... however, the jury is still out on our new friend. Not sure if it is serious or not, or if it is "morefreedom".
