So is the "Administrator" a new concept car we are not yet familiar with? Actually, it doesn't sound like a bad name for a car - Bentley Administrator for example.

Hey MJ,

I was stylin' in my Acura last week.

This week you got me in a Cadillac?

What up, bro?

Just hoping it's something like this '39 vert:

Dunno about that, MJ :-P I'd rather have an NSX than a CTS, but overall a Caddy would stand for a good car.

I'd take an Acura over a Caddy, but I'm biased because we own 2 Acuras! They're great cars, though. In general, I think it'd be tough to say. My mom has a new MDX which I like a lot, but it's definitely no Escalade. However, if you're comparing it to the SRX (Cadillac's midsize SUV), then I'd have to say Acura > Cadillac. They're very different cars, though.

I think the reputation system works well and as long as the number of users doesn't become huge I don't see the need for negative reputation, I think negative rep is mostly usefull in huge forums where the moderators have a hard time keeping an eye on everything that gets posted.

Another option, maybe more drastic, but that I've seen working well in other forums is making admissions available only trough referral. This means you cannot just register/join the forum but that some current forum member has to invite you. This means that that person will fell somewhat responsible for you and will only invite someone they feel will have something to add to the forum.

MJ, are users actually using the reputation in this forum? I do use it whenever I feel the post is great or the poster asks a god question, what about the others?

Yup! Its working out far better than I expected.

It gets harder and harder to reach higher speeds. I think for me to go from 35 to 40 takes 150 points or so. The prior level was just 40 or 50.

I'm new here, but I have to say that, besides turning what could be a good portal for info into an elitists club, thats just not the way to share good info. The job of the Admin is......to Administer, the good bad and ugly.
I consider myself to have been fairly successful, and hopefully with something to share. But if I had to be referred.....if any of had to be, how would others gain from our experience under your system?

For instance, I've (wife and I)amassed a multi- million dollar net worth with no college education, don't you think someone may want to know the how, where, when why's and whats of how I did it? Wouldn't happen if I had to be referred.

I'm not flaming you, just expressing my .002 cents

Hey MJ,

I got home today to find that you took away my Cadillac and replaced it with a Lexus.

Many thanks. The ashtrays were getting full in the Caddy anyways.

BTW, I left the set of steak knives for the second place winner in the trunk.

I took a pic of my new Lexi in front of the house tonight (see below).

I think it looks goooood!

Oh, and I appreciate the gesture, but I'm afraid I have to return the 2 web designers you sent along with the car (in photo). They seem like super nice gals, and very sharp, but we just didn't need them right now.

Still, props for being so thoughtful.

I'm definitely gonna keep the car, though!

Thanks.

I'm curious to what the level number next to the car type is. Is that how close you are to moving up in a car type?

I'm sorry to post such a basic question, but I can't seem to find the answer.

Another question I have is if you take a break from posting good things will your speed go down, or are you always at that level?

And lastly... I like not having a negative reputation bump. If people's posts are breaking the rules or they're obviously spamming just to increase their stats they should be suspended or if its an ongoing thing, banned. Perhaps we could have a Rep meter that reads "Suspended license" or "Reinstated License" instead of negative rep.

Elliot,

Your car improves as you post more. You get into better cars as you post more. However, the "speed" is only reflective of your contribution as viewed by other users. Obviously, you could have a Ferrari or Lamborghini level and only be moving at 5 mph. This would be reflective on a high post maker and a low contributor (which isn't fastlane, hence the slow speed). Hope this helps!

Does rep speed expire? In other words, is it possible for your rep speed to go down?

No, your points never go down. However, your speed can decrease if I do a recalibration which I do every so often. In that case, everyone gets a decrease.

I TOTALLY agree with you!

I feel very, very, priviledged to be here and although I do not know you all personally. I have truly learned alot!
I am sure the TOP speeders here can generally figure out who is here to really learn and not waste everybody's time.

Like you said, we are all here with the same goals and mindset.

That's why I am honored to be welcomed into this group!

Since you have literally taken the words out of my mouth Bilgefisher, you deserve rep++
Thanks!

From "lurking" on this forum since the very beginning, I have noticed very few if ANY flame wars among members, and this site has been a great promoter of free thought and idea-exchange, regardless of someones inexperience (or even ignorance) on a subject. Any forum where advice/criticism is recieved and given with respect is a winner, and I think TFLTM accomplishes that in spades.

I think this is reflective of the quality of the folks here -- respective, yet, quick to spot BS and ask questions.
