Anyone doing anything interesting?

What are your plans for the holiday weekend? Me, just standard fare -- BBQ and swimming.

Driving back to Indy from Orlando. 1020 miles. Lots of fun with two teenage drivers. I am a poor passenger but survived the trip down.

We always hop on the sail boat and wait for nightfall.
Then, watch the firework show from the boat.

It is such a great view - fireworks reflecting on the lake water. And, we see not only the view of the town's show, but of all the other people on the shore shooting off their fireworks too.

I'll be working on the 4th. Overtime, but not OT or comp pay since I'm salary. I'm actually very happy to be working this 4th. It makes me want to work that much harder to get myself out of a job. It will be another ass kicker to myself. If I feel like procrastinating on my plans, I'll just remind myself thats another 4th of July I'll have to work.

After work I'll be spending time with my gf's family. BBQ and a movie.

We'll be smoking up a pork loin and working on our website. Nothing exciting but once Sam is older, I'm sure that will change.

This morning I came into work early and got a phone call. Another person in my unit told me that my Soldier needed to get to an office in 20 minutes to get her interview to be a citizen. She wasn't in to work yet but I knew I had to hurry. I drove to her room and told her lets go get your interview. So on July 4th I'll take one of my Soldiers to attend the US Forces naturalization ceremony in Iraq. Then we'll have a BBQ with hamburgers and hotdogs as a great way to celebrate the day. I'll check my work email since I have other Soldiers I need to check up on.

Tom

Tom, you get my vote for the best 4th of July so far on this thread.

Kudos to you.

OK, Bobo-- I learned a new funny word today. Took me awhile to figure out the "big green egg" . . . (never ever heard that one before).

I like!

Actually Russ, for once, Bobo wasn't making a funny.

The Big Green Egg is an amazing grill-type-thing he got last summer for father's day. Smokes, grills, bakes, slow cooks, etc.

Not much, I'll be heading down to the yacht club early to hang around, than sail in the 4th of July series. Hoping to do another clean sweep like we did a couple years ago, were due!

Whenever we get back to the dock, I'm heading over to a BBQ.

Hah!

FINALLY I feel like I get one of Bobo's jokes (see below), and it turns out he wasn't joking . . .

There is some profound lesson to be learned here . . . just gotta figure out what it is . . .

You seem to have such a good time when celebrating 4th of July. When we celebrate our national holiday in Sweden it is very boring and often depressing and sad.

The most eyebrow raising is our knack to drink vodka on that particular day. And the end result is usually men beating up their wives and people getting hit by cars and God knows what more.

In the USA it seems like you have a good blend between good food and good drink and good friends to share it all with. I am envious.

Happy 4th July.

I love the 4th because it seems to be a day (like many holidays) when EVERYONE steps away from the rat race and becomes inward focused on family and country. Its really one day of utopia because the mindset of all is temporarily altered.

Why is this? Sadly, I don't know much about your country. But, very curious.... depressing and sad?
