Trouble getting physical gold and silver?

I have not tried to purchase physical gold and silver for a few years now, but looking at the metals dealers online, eg Apmex.com and Kitco.com, I am noticing a paucity of inventory for sale. American silver eagles seem almost nowhere to be found. Is anybody else noticing this or have any thoughts, especially on this link?:

Do you think this has anything to do with the popularity of the ETFs and a result of the ETF funds and trusts buying gold?

I just checked out the ETF GLD, the trust does hold physical gold bullion. I don't know what type of fractional reserve it is required to hold, but the trust does claim close to $20 billion in assets.

That is certainly a thought. The question would be how much is actually physical vs. futures contracts or some other paper derivative. When people redeem shares, if the ETFs have to sell lots of physical on the market, the volatility would be expected to increase markedly.
